Rohan is honored and grateful to have received the following international awards and recognitions:

IndianRaga Fellow - 2013
Selected as a founding fellow by the international organization promoting innovation in the Indian arts. Also invited to the first IndianRaga/Drive East festival in New York City.

Stevenson Prize - 2013
Nominated for the Society for Ethnomusicology’s Stevenson Prize for ethnomusicologists who are also composers. Invited to perform Shades of 3 at the SEM international conference in Indianapolis.

Best Student Paper Award - 2012
First place for a paper presentation entitled “Cross-Cultural Concepts and Approaches in Musical Rhythm” at the Acoustical Society of America international conference in Kansas City.

Charles Warren Fox Award - 2012
Awarded by the Eastman School of Music’s musicology department for an outstanding research paper.

Lokvani Spotlight on Excellence Award - 2011
Award from the leading South Asian magazine, Lokvani, for outstanding artistic accomplishments and contributions to the South Asian community.

First Place- New Venture Challenge - 2009
Eastman School of Music Institute for Music Leadership’s premiere music entrepreneurship award offering seed money to implement a business plan to patent and commercialize a new drumhead tuning system. Eastman has helped provide legal services for the patent application.

Barbara Smith Gamelan Composition Award - 2009
Award from the Eastman School of Music Composition department for the best new composition, Tabuh Kreasi Parivartanam, for mridangam and Indonesian gamelan.

Provost Fellowship - 2008
Five-year doctoral fellowship awarded by the University of Rochester for academic excellence and research interests.

Best Student Paper Award - 2007
First place for a paper presentation entitled “Acoustics of the Mridangam: Study of a New Design of a South Indian Drum” at the Acoustical Society of America international conference in New Orleans.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Grant - 2007
Awarded to conduct acoustics research on new drum tuning design with eminent acoustician, Dr. James Cottingham, at Coe College, Iowa.

Thomas Siwe Scholarship - 2006
First Indian percussionist to receive the national scholarship to attend the Percussive Arts Society's International Convention (PASIC).

Lilian Pringle Baldauf Award for Music - 2006 & 2005 
Award recognizing an outstanding music major at Kalamazoo College.  

USA Today All-College Academic Second Team - 2006 & 2005
The nationally-competitive award profiled exceptional undergraduates from across the United States in USA Today. Was the only student selected from the entire state of Michigan, the only student to be recognized for musical accomplishments in 2006, and the first student selected from Kalamazoo College. 

Best Performer- Mridangam - 2004 
Highest youth recognition offered by Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, the oldest music organization in the Indian classical music hub-city of Chennai. The selection process was determined by a committee of leading musicians and scholars during the organization’s annual December concert series. 

Yuva Kala Bharati (Young Artist of India) - 2004
One of the youngest recipients of the flagship award offered by Bharat Kalachar, a premier music organization in Chennai. Selection for the award was based on outstanding achievements in the Indian fine arts by young artists. 

Heyl Foundation Scholarship - 2004
Kalamazoo College four-year undergraduate full fellowship for excellence in math and science. 

Prodigy in Performing Arts - 2002
Presented by the Indo-American Center in New York City to Indian-Americans who have significantly impacted American society.  

Kaashyap Award - 2002 
Awarded by the Valayapatti Naadhalaya Trust in Chennai, India, to outstanding young artists.

Asthana Vidwan (“Artist Laureate”) - 2000   
Conferred by the Chicago Thyagaraja Utsavam, the first Indian classical music organization in America, for extraordinary talent and commitment to Indian classical performing arts. 

First Place at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival- Senior Percussion Competition - 1998
Awarded first place at the largest Indian music festival and competition outside of India, in spite of being several years under the age limit for the senior category.
