2019-2020 ENSEMBLE IN RESIDENCE
The Alaya Project is the essential bridge between the intricate Carnatic style of Indian classical music and contemporary jazz and funk. Born in Oakland, the driving hybrid kit grooves of Indian percussionist and drummer, Rohan Krishnamurthy, the soulful Ragas and melodies of Prasant Radhakrishnan on saxophone, and the harmonic bedrock of Colin Hogan embodies the permanence of a changing soundscape.
“A trio combining classical Carnatic ragas, contemporary jazz and funk, The Alaya Project is forging a beautiful new sound.”– Andrew Gilbert, Berkeleyside
The Alaya Project will use the C4NM Ensemble in Residence program to strengthen and expand their repertoire through rehearsals and collaboration as they explore new experimental compositional ideas, receive feedback on their creative and professional directions, gain career guidance, purchase new instruments and equipment, and perform their new works to a broader community. C4NM’s resouces and guidance will support their goal of producing their first full-length album.
